Scheduled
Meetings |
| Regular Meeting Date for DRDC!
The Del Rio Dive Club meets the third Tuesday of every month, 7:00 pm,
normally at
Amistad Outpost:
SCUBA & More (3806B Veterans Blvd) as a rule. However, we do like
to mix things up a bit for variety, so check the main page for changes. Help spread the word to all
divers, people curious about diving and, of course our families. Make
this a permanent entry in your calendars! Keep watching for changes in
location, though, since we do like to mix things up a bit once in a while. |

Dive
News |
| TrashFest in New Braunfels saw record
numbers of divers and record prizes as well. This was the Del Rio Dive
Club's first year entering the event and, while we didn't win any team
prizes, we did have a few individual prize winners. Congrats! We're
discussing the possibility of late season events like a pumpkin carving, and
invite all ideas. Leave messages on the forums or visit our next dive
club meeting.
Be on the look out for future dive trips! If you've been thinking of taking a dive trip, why not join us
for our next one? |

Upcoming
Training |
| PADI (Professional Association of
Dive Instructors) Certification! Robert Wade of CF Divers has certification
classes scheduled regularly during the warmer season, typically May through
October. We can train and certify from Basic Open Water all the way up
to Divemaster. Send us an e-mail or stop by
Amistad Outpost to get on the list.
The following dates have been lined up for Open Water Diver
classes:
No further classes scheduled this season, although special one-on-one
classes can be arranged.
If you are interested in more advanced classes, please contact us.
Please be aware that
students are expected to bring the following to the course:
Mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit (suggest a 3mm shorty), booties (if you have
strap-type fins), dive knife (highly encouraged) and two passport sized
photos (1 3/4 in x 2 1/4 in). ADVANCED CLASS - If you are scheduled
for the AOW course be aware that a night dive and a deep dive are both part
of the course. You will need a primary and secondary dive light for
this course. Some sort of beacon is also advisable. The primary
light should be 10watt or higher, high intensity (typically a pistol-grip
type light). The secondary, often referred to as a BC light, is
smaller, usually using AA batteries. A beacon light can be any of the
flashing or non-flashing small lights typically strung to the diver's tank,
or as simple as one of those chemical light sticks available where camping
supplies are sold.
Details:
Purchase your Basic Open Water Crew Pack (includes manual, dive tables,
training dive log) and coursework DVD (available at Amistad Outpost).
Rental of BC, regulator, tanks, weights is also available at Amistad
Outpost. If equipment is not available at class time, instructor may
be able to
provide them. Bring a passport photo (for your certification card).
Upon completion of the course the instructor will issue you a temporary card
and deliver your permanent certification card upon arrival from PADI. |

Club
Socials |
|
Although there is obviously some degree of work involved in maintaining a
club, the main purpose (at least OUR main purpose) is to simply provide an
avenue for divers to congregate, dive and have fun. It is a
recreational sport, after all. One of the ways to foster a cohesive
group of people is to have various social activities from time to time.
This can range from dinners to promotionals to clean-ups. |
