Scheduled
Meetings |
| Regular Meeting Date for DRDC!
The Del Rio Dive Club meets the third Thursday of every month, 7:00 pm,
at Rudy's Restaurant as a rule. However, we do like
to mix things up a bit for variety, so check the main page for changes. Help spread the word to all
divers, people curious about diving and, of course our families. Make
this a permanent entry in your calendars! Keep watching for changes in
location, though, since we do like to mix things up a bit once in a while. |

News |
| Congratulations to the latest
students on
obtaining her Open Water certification! Sarah Darley and Sarah
Henderson finished the course in fine fashion! Also, congrats to
Robert Garza, jr., aka Scuba Bob, for attaining Rescue Diver status.
Now it's on to Divemaster! His wife, Sandy, completed the academic and
confined water portions of the class and we look forward to finishing her
open water portions on a trip to Balmorhea! If you have any ideas for diving and non-diving events be sure to
drop by the forums and give us a shout! We should be hearing from the
City of Del Rio soon about their next city-wide cleanup. The club
always participates by diving San Felipe Creek and cleaning up the junk that
gets left there throughout the year by the families having picnics.
Check the main page and the forums, we've got more trips to Balmorhea as
well as a trip to dive on the Texas Clipper coming up! |

Upcoming
Training |
| PADI (Professional Association of
Dive Instructors) Certification! Robert Wade of CF Divers has certification
classes scheduled regularly during the warmer season, typically May through
October. We can train and certify from Basic Open Water all the way up
to Divemaster. Send us an e-mail or stop by
Amistad Outpost to get on the list.
The following dates have been lined up for Open Water Diver
classes:
October 9-11: Sign up by September 20 with deposit. Download the
"Things You Should
Know" guide.
If you are interested in more advanced classes, please contact us.
IMPORTANT!: Prior to taking any course,
download the
R.S.T.C. Medical Statement and fill it out. Answer either "Yes" or
"No" (just Y or N is not acceptable) to the medical questions. If you
answer "Yes" to any of them take the form to your personal doctor for a
determination on whether you should scuba dive. If you obtain the
physician's signature indicating you are fit to dive, bring the form to your
scuba Instructor..
Please be aware that
students are expected to bring the following to the course:
Mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit (suggest a 3mm shorty), booties (if you have
strap-type fins), dive knife (highly encouraged) and two passport sized
photos (1 3/4 in x 2 1/4 in). ADVANCED CLASS - If you are scheduled
for the AOW course be aware that a night dive and a deep dive are both part
of the course. You will need a primary and secondary dive light for
this course. Some sort of beacon is also advisable. The primary
light should be 10watt or higher, high intensity (typically a pistol-grip
type light). The secondary, often referred to as a BC light, is
smaller, usually using AA batteries. A beacon light can be any of the
flashing or non-flashing small lights typically strung to the diver's tank,
or as simple as one of those chemical light sticks available where camping
supplies are sold.
Details:
Purchase your Basic Open Water Crew Pack (includes manual, dive tables,
training dive log) and coursework DVD (available at Amistad Outpost).
Rental of BC, regulator, tanks, weights is also available at Amistad
Outpost. If equipment is not available at class time, instructor may
be able to
provide them. Bring a passport photo (for your certification card).
Upon completion of the course the instructor will issue you a temporary card
and deliver your permanent certification card upon arrival from PADI. |

Club
Socials |
|
Although there is obviously some degree of work involved in maintaining a
club, the main purpose (at least OUR main purpose) is to simply provide an
avenue for divers to congregate, dive and have fun. It is a
recreational sport, after all. One of the ways to foster a cohesive
group of people is to have various social activities from time to time.
This can range from dinners to promotionals to clean-ups. |
